What you're actually getting
A Hobnob, for the uninitiated, is already doing a lot of work. Oaty, slightly crumbly, just sweet enough. McVitie's have taken two of them and stuck chocolate cream in the middle, sandwich biscuit style. The result is richer than a standard Hobnob, obviously, but it doesn't completely abandon that earthy oat thing that makes them good in the first place.
I had one with a strong builder's tea on a grey Tuesday afternoon and honestly, it held up. The chocolate cream is proper sweet, no question, so if you're already someone who finds Hobnobs a bit much, these aren't going to convert you. But if you're the sort who raids the biscuit tin before anyone else gets a look in, you'll be fine.
Who this is actually for
At 50p for 100g, there's basically no risk here. That's the thing. You're not committing to a multipack or a full tin. It's a small pack, good for:
- A solo tea break
- Bunging in a lunchbox
- Seeing if you actually like them before buying more
Personally I wouldn't call these an everyday replacement for classic Hobnobs. The cream filling makes them a bit claggy if you eat more than three in a row, which, fair enough, that's probably the point. They're a treat version, not a staple.
The honest reservation
The 100g size is quite small. You'll go through them faster than you expect, and then feel slightly shortchanged. Stock moves quick on these community-flagged deals too, so if you're interested, don't sit on it.
