The idea is simple, maybe too simple
Maltesers are already doing something right. Light, crunchy, not overly sweet. Adding honeycomb to that formula sounds like a no-brainer, and honestly, it mostly is. The honeycomb layer sits between the malt centre and the chocolate shell, and when you get a fresh one, you do get that extra little crack. It's subtle though. Don't go in expecting a Crunchie-level hit.
I opened a bag during a film last week, sharing with someone who had never tried the honeycomb version. Her verdict: "Oh, yeah, that's nice." Not exactly rapturous, but she kept reaching in, which is probably the more honest review.
Who this is actually for
If you already love standard Maltesers, this is a gentle upgrade worth trying once. The 158g pouch is a decent size for two people, maybe two and a half if you're being disciplined (you won't be). At under £1.80, and closer to £1.69 on Subscribe and Save, it's not a risk worth agonising over.
If you're after something with a proper bold flavour, look elsewhere. This isn't Thorntons, it isn't artisan chocolate, it's a supermarket bag of sweets doing exactly what it says.
One honest reservation
The honeycomb can go a bit soft if the bag's been sitting around. Freshness really matters here more than with regular Maltesers. Buy it, eat it fairly soon. That's about as complicated as this needs to get.
