The coffee that just gets on with it

Lavazza Qualità Rossa has been sitting on Italian kitchen shelves since the 1950s. It's not trying to impress you. Arabica and Robusta blend, medium roast, intensity rated 5 out of 10. Which, honestly, is exactly what a lot of people want from their morning espresso.

I've had this running through a Sage Barista Express for about three months. It pulls a clean, slightly nutty shot with decent crema. Nothing that's going to make you ring your mate at 7am to tell them about it, but genuinely consistent. Milk drinks work well with it too, the Robusta gives enough body to hold up under a splash of oat milk without disappearing.

Who this is actually for

If you're deep into specialty single-origin stuff, this probably isn't your bag. Literally or figuratively. But if you want something that works every day, doesn't need fussing over, and comes in a 1kg bag so you're not constantly reordering, Qualità Rossa makes a lot of sense.

The Subscribe & Save angle is where it gets practical. At this price per kilo, it undercuts most supermarket own-brands that are nowhere near as consistent. Stock fluctuates, so if you drink coffee daily, locking it in makes sense.

One honest reservation: the bag isn't resealable, which is a minor irritation if you don't have a decent airtight container already. Get a clip or a canister sorted before your first delivery.
