What you're actually getting

The Tracer Deep Hole kit is one of those tools you didn't know you needed until you've spent ten minutes trying to mark the inside of a drilled hole with a regular HB and failing miserably. The pencil itself is long and narrow, designed to reach into holes and awkward recesses that a standard pencil just laughs at. You get six replacement leads and a couple of site holsters thrown in, so it's a complete little kit rather than just a pencil rattling around in a bag.

The leads are chunky enough to be durable on rough timber and masonry, and the holster clips are handy if you're the sort who's always losing things on a busy site. Personally, I think the holster is the unsung hero here.

Who actually needs this

If you're a tradesperson or a serious DIYer doing joinery, timber framing, or anything involving deep drill holes, this is a practical bit of kit and the price is fair. Eight quid for the lot is not half bad.

That said, if your DIY runs to the occasional shelf bracket and a bit of painting, you'll probably never use the deep hole function. It'd sit in a drawer forever.

One honest reservation

The brand isn't massive, so longevity of the barrel is a mild unknown. But at this price, you're not exactly gambling the mortgage. The 669 degrees of community heat on HotUKDeals suggests plenty of people have taken the punt and been happy enough. Spot on for the right buyer.
