The bit that actually matters: battery life
Most smartwatches these days make you feel like you're babysitting a toddler, constantly plugging them in before bed. The GT 5 46mm is a different story. Huawei's AMOLED panel paired with their own Kirin chipset squeezes out around 14 days of typical use. Fourteen days, mate. I wore one for a fortnight and only remembered to charge it because I felt guilty, not because it died.
The 46mm case is chunky but not ridiculous. It sits well on a larger wrist, though if you've got slender wrists, the 41mm version is probably a better shout. Build quality feels solid, the titanium-finish bezel looks sharp, and the strap is comfortable enough that you genuinely forget it's there overnight.
Health tracking: good, with one honest caveat
Sleep tracking is detailed, ECG is in there, blood oxygen monitoring, stress scoring. It covers the bases you'd actually care about. The accuracy on heart rate is not half bad in day-to-day use, though if you're a serious runner relying on it for race-day data, a Garmin is probably still your mate.
The one thing worth flagging: Huawei's ecosystem. If you're on iOS, you lose a fair chunk of functionality, and even on Android it works best within Huawei's own apps. That's not a dealbreaker for everyone, but it's worth knowing upfront rather than finding out after unboxing.
Who this is actually for
Perfect for someone wanting a long-lasting, good-looking watch with solid health features and no strong brand loyalty pulling them elsewhere. If you're deep into Apple Watch or Wear OS, probably not worth switching. Everyone else, this is worth a serious look at this price.
