The problem it solves
Most of us have bodged an outdoor power setup at some point. An extension cable through a slightly-open door, or worse, a regular indoor socket getting rained on under a bit of cardboard. Look, it works until it doesn't, and then it really doesn't. That's where something like this BG Electrical IP66 rated double socket earns its place.
IP66 means it's properly sealed against dust and powerful water jets, so British weather isn't going to bother it. It's a double switched socket, which is actually more useful than a single when you're running garden lights and a pressure washer at the same time.
Who this is actually for
This is a DIY install, so if you're not comfortable with outdoor wiring, you'll need an electrician. Worth being honest about that. But if you're handy with a screwdriver and know your way around a consumer unit, fitting this is a Saturday morning job. Solid build, the kind of thing you'd expect from BG rather than some no-name white-label unit.
At around eight quid, personally I'd buy two and be done with it. One for the shed, one near the back door.
Honestly, my only reservation is the lack of a clear "was price" to compare against. No dramatic discount here. But for what you get, the price is fair rather than flashy.
Bottom line
Not half bad for anyone fitting out a garden properly. If you've been putting off sorting outdoor power, this is the unsexy but spot-on solution that'll make you wonder why you waited.
